Billy J. ("Pete") White

Billy James White, affectionately known to many as “Pete,” was born on January 14, 1941, in Kilgore, Texas, to the late Ophelia White and Rufus White. On June 29, 2026, he peacefully completed his earthly journey, leaving behind a legacy defined by perseverance, hard work, love for family, and a life well lived.

Billy was a true trailblazer. He made history as the first Black butcher in East Texas, a remarkable achievement that reflected not only his exceptional skill and dedication, but also his courage to break barriers during a time when opportunities were often limited. His work ethic, integrity, and determination earned him the respect of those around him and paved the way for generations that followed.

Known for his warm personality and appreciation for life's simple pleasures, Billy had a passion for automobiles. Among his favorite possessions was a red Corvette, which perfectly reflected his confidence, style, and zest for life. Whether sharing stories, enjoying good company, or simply admiring a beautiful car, Billy embraced each day with quiet joy.

Above all, Billy treasured his family. He was the proud father of David White and Sophie White, both of whom preceded him in death. Though their earthly time together was cut short, the love he carried for his children remained forever in his heart.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Ophelia White and Rufus White; his son, David White; his daughter, Sophie White; his brothers, Leonard Redden, O.T. Redden, and James Redden Sr.; his sisters, Francis Wallace, Anna Andrews, Patsy Boyd, and Doris Watson; and his beloved grandson, Jabre Alexander.

He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Bobby R. White; his sister, Opal Carter; his granddaughters, Kimberly White and Savannah Brown; and his treasured great-grandchildren, James, Kyndalin, KeVaeh, Jett, and Ayla Alexander. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever honor his memory and celebrate the life of a man whose quiet strength and enduring legacy will never be forgotten.

Though Billy's earthly work is complete, the impact of his life continues to live on through the family he loved, the barriers he broke, and the countless lives he touched. His memory will forever remain a source of pride, inspiration, and love.
